CREATE, CARE AND REPAIR

Sweatshirts, Hoodies Workshop

This autumn, our community is coming together to make something warm, creative, and sustainable — the sweatshirt!
As part of our ongoing Create, Care, and Repair campaign, we are dedicating the Autumn Project to exploring the art of making sweatshirts from scratch. It is an invitation to create with purpose, care for our garments, and repair our relationship with fashion and sustainability.

Our Autumn Project is all about the sweatshirt, a simple, warm, and timeless piece of clothing. This for us, is about rediscovering the joy of making something with your own hands, learning to value what we wear, and embracing sustainability through creativity.

This project is part of our ongoing Create, Care, and Repair campaign, a movement within our school to inspire people to make, to mend, and to cherish their clothes. Through it, we are nurturing a culture of mindful making and showing that fashion can be both creative and kind to the planet.

The Story Behind the Project

The idea for this project began with a simple question:

“What if everyone in our community made one thing — together?”

Beginning with our Creative Year 25/26, our school runs a seasonal project every term, each designed to inspire creativity, skill-building, and sustainable fashion practices.

This autumn’s focus is on sweatshirt making, a project open to everyone in our community, from beginners to experienced makers.

The sweatshirt is our perfect choice this Autumn. It is comfortable, familiar, and versatile, a piece everyone can relate to and make their own. It represents warmth, comfort, and belonging — values we hold deeply within our creative community.

After the success of our Beginner’s Course, which has now welcomed over 80 new learners into the world of sewing, we wanted to take the next step. The Autumn Project gives everyone beginners and experienced makers alike the chance to create something meaningful, to slow down, and to connect through making.

It is not just about learning how to sew a sweatshirt.
It is about learning why we make, why we care, and how we can repair our relationship with the clothes we wear and the world we live in.
