This is a bespoke program for 16-19 yrs old, where they not only gain the practical skills and learn from professionals, but also earn 16 UCAS points, and an Arts Awards Gold Qualification.

The Fashion Foundation Gold Award is a dynamic, hands-on fashion education program tailored for young creatives aged 16–19. This three-level course provides a unique opportunity to gain practical skills in fashion design and garment construction, earn nationally recognised qualifications, and build a professional portfolio — all while working with experienced industry professionals.

Course Structure
The course is divided into three progressive levels (or terms), each lasting 12–14 weeks. Students can choose to complete one level or progress through all three for the full qualification.

Level 1

Introduction to Fashion & Garment Construction.
This foundational term introduces students to the world of fashion and design. You will explore core concepts, tools, and techniques essential to garment making and creative thinking.

You will learn to:
  • Use essential fashion tools and equipment safely
  • Understand patterns and basic drafting techniques
  • Apply basic garment construction methods
  • Explore design concepts and fashion sketching
  • Develop confidence through hands-on practice

Level 2

Design Development & Construction
In this term, students begin to bring their ideas to life. With a stronger foundation, you'll design, plan, and construct your own garments — applying everything learned in Level 1.

You will learn to:
  • Create and develop your original designs
  • Work with various fabrics and understand fit
  • Apply advanced construction and finishing techniques
  • Translate sketches into more wearable garments
  • Receive feedback through peer and tutor evaluation

Level 3

Industry Application & Portfolio Building
The final term focuses on professional readiness. Students develop their personal style and prepare for careers or higher education through portfolio creation and real-world industry exposure.

You will:
  • Complete a fashion portfolio for university or employment
  • Take part in industry placements or mentorships
  • Create original, innovative fashion pieces
  • Learn about branding, fashion marketing, and presentation
  • Participate in a final showcase of your work

Patricia Bright

Patricia Bright began painting at the age of six. She attended the Johnson School of Art at the age of ten and later began studying classical art. At the age of 18 she attended the St. Markus Institute of Art on a full scholarship. After completing college, she has exhibited many of her art series all over the US and parts of Europe.
