Why should I take this course?

This integrated creative course is a unique course created for young people who are interested and passionate about fashion, design and garment making. Beyond making the usual squares and pillowcases, we will be taking on real sewing projects on the course.
The course will run through term time for the entire school year. The Junior fashion school has been designed to teach young ones creative and sewing skills, equiping them also with practical knowledge.
Areas to cover will include understanding design process, using the sewing machine, making stitches, creating and conceptualizing design, patterns, fashion drawing and sewing methods amongst others.
The Junior Fashion School is led by Tolumi, an industry professional and fashion tutor with over 25 years experience and supported by Amber Cook, a Junior Designer and Art graduate.
All our staff are DBS checked.
Classes will hold 11am- 2pm on Saturdays, fee has been set to £25/class. Short breaks and light refreshments included. All materials needed in the classes also included.
This course is a practical and interactive course and will require students to complete weekly tasks. The class will be divided into 2 groups (younger/ older kids). The course will also be very useful as an introduction to the skills required for further study in Fashion Design, garment construction and/or pattern making. At the end of the school year( Summer '24), students will be required to present a mini- portfolio of their work and participate in a fashion exhibition/show with their work on the course.
A Junior Fashion School Certificate will also be awarded at the end of the year.

The London Visit

Autumn
The London Visit is a key moment at the beginning of the National Saturday Club year when members from across the country come together for the first time. Club members get to visit their capital city and attend specially arranged tours of some of the UK’s leading cultural institutions.

Masterclass

Spring
The Masterclasses connects Clubs with an extensive national network of industry experts, giving rare access to some of the UK’s most creative minds. It also showcases the way in which the skills developed at a Saturday Club can be applied in the real world. For many members, their Masterclass experience is the moment they realise that their passions and interests have the potential to develop into fulfilling and rewarding careers.

Summer Showcase

Summer
The Summer Show presents the work of over 2,000 13–16-year-old National Saturday Club members who have been attending 107 Saturday Clubs at 80 universities, colleges, museums and other cultural institutions across the country, for free.
