Let's Quilt:
Quilting for Beginners

Discover the creative possibilities of quilting in this practical 4-hour workshop led by talented and experienced quilter, Mira Jones.

Designed for people who can already use a sewing machine, this workshop offers a friendly and accessible introduction to the foundations of quilting.

Students will learn how to combine fabric, wadding and stitching to create two small quilted pieces while developing techniques that can later be applied to larger quilts and textile projects.

Throughout the session, Mira will guide students step by step through preparing fabrics, creating quilted layers, sewing the pieces together, adding binding and completing professional-looking finishes.

By the end of the workshop, each student will have created a 9 x 9-inch quilted square and a bound circular quilted piece. These can be used as coasters, table mats, decorative textile pieces, handmade gifts or samples for future quilting projects.

The workshop is also inspired by sustainable textile making, encouraging students to explore the creative potential of fabric scraps, leftover materials and smaller pieces of cloth together.

Meet the Tutor - Mira Jones

Mira Jones is the creative maker behind Bluebell Hill Crafts, a sewing and textile craft brand rooted in a love of fabric, colour, texture, storytelling and sustainable making.

Her creative practice includes quilting, fabric collage, stitched paper projects, quilted book covers, hand-stitched fabric bangles, fabric gifts and scrap-based textile work. Mira is especially passionate about reducing waste and finding beauty in leftover materials, often transforming tiny fabric scraps into thoughtful, practical and one-of-a-kind handmade pieces.

Mira’s quilting work includes both structured and expressive approaches, including improv curve quilting and fabric collage. One of her improv curve quilts has recently been selected to travel to the United States as part of a quilt show, where it will feature alongside work celebrating a specialist fabric collection.

Alongside her own creative practice, Mira has volunteered with Project Linus for several years, helping to make quilts for children and teenagers in need. These donated quilts support young people in circumstances such as long-term hospital care, foster care, therapy recovery and other difficult life situations.

In this workshop, Mira brings together her love of quilting, sustainable textile practice and accessible craft teaching. She will guide students step by step through layering, stitching, binding and finishing small quilted pieces, helping them build confidence while learning techniques that can later be applied to larger quilting projects.
