Sew Together:
Learn to Use a Sewing Machine
Are you thinking of buying one, or simply want to learn how to use one?
Join us with a friend, a family member or on your own for a friendly, practical session covering the basics of using a sewing machine.
We will guide you through how the machine works, getting it ready to sew and practising straight stitches.
With 2 tutors supporting our small group, there will be time to ask questions, practise and build your confidence. You do not need any previous sewing experience or your own sewing machine.
We have machines available for you to use.
Children aged 8 and over are welcome with an accompanying adult aged 18 or over. Each pair must include at least one adult.

No. This session is suitable for complete beginners. We will start with the basics and guide you through using the machine and practising straight stitches. You are also welcome if you have sewn before and would like a refresher.
Should I buy a sewing machine before the session?
We recommend waiting until after the session. You can use one of our machines during the workshop and ask our tutors for advice on choosing a machine that suits your needs before making a purchase.
Can I come on my own?
Yes. Adults aged 18 and over can book an individual place for £35. You do not need to bring someone with you.
What happens after I book?
We will send you a link to a form where you can provide each attendee’s details, share your preferences and tell us whether you plan to bring your own machine.
You can also tell us about any support needs you would like us to know about before the session.
Can I come with a friend or family member?
Yes. A pair booking costs £65 for two people. You can come with a friend, partner or family member. Each pair must include at least one adult aged 18 or over.
Will we make a finished project?
While we would encourage you to use your new stitches for a mini project in the session, this workshop focuses on learning how to use a sewing machine and practising main stitches. The aim is to give you a useful foundation for future sewing projects rather than complete a particular item.
