Learn from home, without doing it alone

More than watching a Video

We believe creative learning should still feel creative when it happens online. Our courses are not designed around hours of passive watching.

You will be encouraged to make, practise, experiment, ask questions and apply what you are learning as you go.

Depending on the programme, learning may include live tutor-led sessions, step-by-step recorded demonstrations, practical projects, downloadable learning resources, guided activities, opportunities to ask questions, tutor feedback, independent practice between sessions and progression into more advanced learning.

The aim is not simply to finish a course but to also leave knowing how to do something you could not do before.

How our online learning works

Life does not always fit around a classroom timetable.

You may prefer learning from home, balancing work or family commitments, live too far away to attend our studio regularly, prefer learning in your own environment or you may simply want the flexibility to revisit a demonstration several times until it makes sense.

Our online programmes are designed to make specialist creative learning available to more people without removing the guidance, structure and human connection that make learning meaningful.

New to our programmes?

You do not need to know everything before you begin.
Many of our programmes are designed specifically for people learning a skill for the first time.

Look for courses marked Beginner or No Previous Experience Required.

More experienced learners can choose programmes designed to build specialist skills or take their existing practice further.

Flexible

Learn from home and, where programmes allow, revisit lessons at a pace that works for you.

Practical

Learning is built around making, practising and applying new skills.

Supported

Our programmes are designed to provide guidance rather than leaving you to work everything out alone.

Inclusive

Clear demonstrations, visual teaching and different ways of engaging with learning are built into our approach.

Specialist

Learn from tutors with practical knowledge and experience within the subjects they teach.

Accessible

Online learning helps us reach learners who may be unable to attend our physical studio because of distance, circumstance or the way they prefer to learn.

Learn from home, without doing it alone.

While one of the greatest advantages of online learning is flexibility, one of its greatest challenges can be isolation.
We want to keep the flexibility while reducing the isolation.

Our live programmes create opportunities to learn alongside other people, ask questions, share progress and feel part of a wider creative community. Our community groups and chats outside the live classes keep the conversation going.

Even when learning happens from different homes, we can still make together.

What you will need

The equipment and materials required will depend on the course you choose.

Before enrolling, each course page will clearly tell you:
  • what equipment you need
  • what materials you need
  • what is provided digitally and any software requirements
  • the level of previous experience required
  • how much independent practice to expect

Where possible, we aim to keep requirements realistic and provide guidance on suitable alternatives.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us what you would like to learn, your previous experience and what you hope to achieve.

Our team can help you find an appropriate starting point.
“I attended a beginners workshop which allowed me to get familiarised with a sewing machine in just a couple of hours. Tolumi is a fabulous teacher and an all-round ray of sunshine! I left feeling inspired.”
