Creating access where opportunity is limited
Based in a local mining village, we began KJSF because young people in our community had limited access to specialist creative opportunities.
Today, we are helping to change that.
Over 400+ children and Young People have accessed our provisions.
Young people have accessed sewing machines, art materials, robotics kits, digital technology and specialist creative teaching without families having to provide the equipment themselves.
We continue to create free and subsidised places, particularly where cost or circumstance could otherwise prevent participation.

Through our programmes young people have experienced places including Central Saint Martins, Burberry, Victoria and Albert Museum, Royal Opera House and the Barbican, exhibitions at the Somerset House, alongside industry masterclasses and wider national opportunities.
For some, it begins as something they enjoy and for others, it becomes a portfolio, qualification, future course or career pathway.

We see it in the young person who speaks up more confidently.
The learner who finally finds something they are good at.
The neurodivergent young person who feels comfortable enough to participate in their own way.
The child who arrives saying, “I cannot do that,” and leaves carrying something they made themselves.
Our programmes create calm, supportive and inclusive creative environments where young people can learn at different speeds, build relationships and develop confidence through making.
