More than a sewing class

Sew & Sow was created around the idea that creativity can bring people together. Each week, members spend time sewing, learning practical techniques, sharing ideas and working on personal and group projects.

There is structure and teaching, but there is also time to talk, laugh, help one another and simply enjoy making. It is a sewing group, but it is also a place for routine, friendship, wellbeing and belonging.

Learn

We regularly introduce techniques and skills through tutor demonstrations and guided practice.

Make

Members work on shared sewing projects as well as developing their own confidence and independence.

Repair and Upcycle

We make space for alterations, repairs and upcycling, helping and teaching members make more of what they already own.

Create with Purpose

Throughout the year, we also work together on community projects that use our sewing skills to support others.

Creating with purpose, giving with care.

Making can do more than create something beautiful.

Our Sew & Sow members have used their skills to create items for people within the wider community, including handmade Christmas gifts for children and sensory projects for people living with dementia.

These projects give us an opportunity to learn together while using creativity to make a difference beyond our own sewing tables.

What Will you Learn?

Projects change throughout the year, but sessions include:
  • sewing-machine confidence and garment construction
  • reading and using sewing patterns
  • alterations, repairs and upcycling
  • fabric and construction techniques
  • sewing for the home seasonal projects
  • personal sewing projects
  • community-making projects

You do not need to know everything before you join. We learn as we go.
