SHORT COURSE

Beginners Sewing Course - Create, Care & Repair.

After the launch of a successful course, and based on popular demand, we are excited to launch the Evening classes for our 6-week beginners course as part of our Create, Care, and Repair campaign. This course will focus on making your own clothes, caring for the garments you already have, upcycling, and doing simple alterations by yourself.

Did you know the fashion industry produces millions of tonnes of waste each year? In fact, next to food waste, it creates the second-largest amount of waste. The rise of fast fashion has made the waste problem even worse, with companies overproducing and many of us over-consuming.
In the UK alone (according to the Waste and Resources Action Programme WRAP) 711,000 tonnes (equivalent to 30,000 shipping containers) of unwanted clothing and textiles were disposed of by homes to Household Waste Recycling Centres in 2024.

We believe that change must begin with us as individuals and within our local communities. Sustainability is a collective responsibility, and this is why we have created the Create, Care, and Repair campaign at Kent School of Fashion/ Kent Junior School of Fashion and Arts. Our goal is to inspire and encourage our communities toward sustainability.

Instead of embracing fast fashion, we want to promote slow fashion. Let us bring back the joy of making in our communities! We can create garments, care for the clothes we already own, mend buttons and zippers, and repair tears and rips before discarding them, and also remake/ repurpose our clothing into new items.

Join us on this sustainability journey as we teach you how to use a sewing machine, make seams, do alterations, mend clothes, and repurpose them.
